ICA

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

We are now accepting applications for ICA x Dr. Martens Image Behaviour Production Grants. Read on for details of how you can apply and for a link to the online application portal.

Who can apply?

ICA x Dr. Martens Image Behaviour Production Grants are designed to support UK-based emerging artists and collaborators who are looking to make their first significant presentation in a UK institution and who feel that they would benefit from expert mentoring and production support. You must be aged 16 or over, and you don’t need any formal training or education to apply.  We welcome applications from artists whose work falls outside traditional categories and are looking to support and platform new voices through this programme.

What are the grants?

There are seven ICA x Dr. Martens Image Behaviour Production Grants: six grants of £5,000 and one grant of £30,000, each one supplemented with production support and mentoring. The grants will support successful applicants to produce new work for the next edition of Image Behaviour, the ICA’s annual convening dedicated to experiments in artists’ moving image, which is due to take place in late 2021.

Please include a detailed outline of your proposed project and a provisional budget of £5,000. One artist will be invited to further develop their proposal with an Image Behaviour Production Grant of £30,000. You can opt in to be considered for this larger production grant as part of the application process.

How can I apply?

You can apply using the online application form linked below. (If you have specific access needs, please contact us at imagebehaviour@ica.art to discuss alternative methods of submitting your application.)

On your application, please be prepared to include:

  • details about yourself and any planned collaborators;
  • a proposal for the work you’d like to produce for Image Behaviour;
  • a production budget; and
  • up to five links to your previous work, as well as links to any images or mood boards that you feel illustrate your proposal.

Once you have submitted, we’ll send you an email with a link to your application, which you may amend or edit online at any time until applications close (see below).

What are the key dates?

Applications close at 6pm on Tuesday30 March 2021. If your application is shortlisted, we will invite you to discuss your proposal in April 2021, before the international jury makes the final selection of successful applicants for ICA x Dr. Martens Image Behaviour Production Grants by May/June 2021.

Please note that all successful applicants must be available from May to October 2021, when the production of the new work arising from this Open Call will take place, although exact time commitments may vary between projects.
